A parents worse nightmare….

Hi everybody. I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything. You know, busy life and all. đŸ˜„

But I had to share an amazing movie with you. I rarely have time to watch them but this one is SO GOOD.

It’s called Kidnap and it stars the talented Halle Berry.

Curious? Check out the description below:

A typical afternoon in the park turns into a nightmare for single mother Karla Dyson when kidnappers snatch her young son Frankie.

With no cellphone and no time to wait for police, Dyson jumps into her car to follow the vehicle that holds Frankie.

As the pursuit turns into a frantic, high-speed chase, Karla must risk everything and push herself to the limit to save her beloved child.

This movie is truly a parents worst nightmare. Turning your back for just a moment and poof! your child is gone, taken by a stranger.

Luckily I have not had anything remotely like this happen to me and I would never wish this on my worst enemy. There have been a few times I have had a little scare but thankfully it turned out fine.

There are so many kids taken and kidnapped now that the very idea of losing your child is terrifying, crippling even. In most instances, the parent does not know they are missing until it’s too late but in this movie, Karla (Halle Berry) witnesses the kidnappers taking her child and is able to give chase.Despite everything that is thrown her way, Karla never gives up.

Halle Berry gives an excellent performance in this movie, making you feel her terror as her only son is ripped away and her frustration as time and time again, she is unable to stop the events from unfolding.

This movie has several highs and lows, stomach dropping scenes, and more than a few shocks. It was such a good movie that even my husband was on the edge of his seat the whole time.

But it definitely makes you think about the what-ifs. True, you can’t keep your child/children in your sight 24/7/365 but there are a few things to help you keep them safe.

  • PAY ATTENTION

It is so easy take your eyes off of them for just a minute because of distractions. While at the park, the store, ball games or wherever, pay attention to your kids. Watch them play or better yet, play with them.

  • SAFETY IN NUMBERS (ALWAYS make sure your kids are not alone. Have them play with friends, other family members, etc)
  • GIVE THEM A CURFEW

They may think it’s punishment or that you don’t trust them but it’s just a parents way of keeping them safe.

  • CHILD SAFETY KITS

These allow you to keep your child’s info all in one place and handy in case they do go missing (hair or fingernail clipping sample for DNA), latest picture, age, height, weight, birthmarks, characteristic, etc)

Here are just a few sites to get your free child safety kits:

https://www.childsafekit.com/

https://secure.pollyklaasaction.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=291

http://www.missingkids.com/ChildID

You can also check with your local police department for safety kits as well.

  • CELL PHONES

If you’re avle to buy one for your child/children, do so. Yes, they can play games, watch videos, etc on them but they are also a good way to stay in touch with your kids.

  • USE A LOCATOR APP

There are a ton of apps, free and not free, that allow you to keep track if your kids movements and locations.

  • COME UP WITH AN ALERT WORD

For example, perhaps there is a certain word or number they can text or speak in case of danger. Make it short, easy to remember, and confidential.

  • KNOW THEIR PEOPLE

Get to know their friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, etc. And know their friends’ parents, their addresses and phone numbers.

  • KEEP TRACK OF THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVITY

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. I’m not saying stalk your kids. Just keep an eye out for them. Because unfortunately there are bad people that use these platforms to trick kids.

Hopefully these ideas will help in keeping your kids, and other kids, a little safer.

Thanks for stopping by.

Looking for a pysicologocal thriller?

Although you may not be familiar with the name M. Night Shyamalan (I’m not sure how that’s possible but i suppose it could happen), you have to know at least one of the movies on his list of hits:

  • The Last Airbender
  • Signs
  • The Sixth Sense
  • The Village
  • The Happening
  • Afterearth
  • Unbreakable
  • The Visit
  • Devil
  • Lady in the Water

But not all of his films are included in the horror/suspense genre. Here’s two movies that totally took me by surprise as being his work:

  • Stuart Little
  • She’s All That

Yeah I know, unbelievable right?

Well, if you loved any of those movies, here’s another one of his thrillers to check out.

SPLIT

STARRING JAMES MCAVOY AS KEVIN

Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all of the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey, Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him — as well as everyone around him — as the walls between his compartments shatter.

This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat. As you meet the various personalities, you become more and more drawn into the dark and twisted world and mind of Kevin.

For me, it enthralls me just because I like the suspense, the unknown, and the strange  behavior of people. I want to know the hows and whys of their unusual actions. What makes them go from being an average child into the person they’ve become.

So if you enjoy a dark thriller that makes you stop and question the recesses of the human mind, this movie is for you. Enjoy!

Here to Tantalize Us…MJ!

Good morning everyone. Today on Tantalizing Tuesday, I have MJ Compton and her newest book, Omega Moon Rising.

Hi MJ. It is always so exciting to have a new book release. What can you tell us about it?

I am so glad to be here. Thanks for hosting me. Here is the hook and the blurb for Omega Moon:

HOOK:

One desperate woman intent on escape.
One brash werewolf determined to deny his DNA.
Until his destiny becomes her deliverance.

BLURB:

Abigail Grant has a secret . . . and a plan to keep her younger sister from suffering the same fate. Her strategy would have worked if she hadn’t been seduced by sweet-talking musician Luke Omega. Suddenly she’s plucked from the life she wanted to escape, but her new circumstances only expose her to a different danger—or is it her salvation?
Luke has a secret, too. He believes he can change his destiny through willpower—and a little blue pill. When he inadvertently gets mixed up in the Grant sisters’ troubles and his pack alpha orders him to marry Abigail, his family insists he tell her he’s a werewolf. But Luke claims Abigail is not his life mate. She doesn’t need to know what happens to him on the full moon.
Until he accidentally stumbles across her secret. Then all bets are off.
Wow! This sounds incredible. Is there any way you can give us a taste of what is to come in your book? Like maybe a teeny excerpt?
Absolutely! Here you go:
Excerpt:

She, Abigail Grant, had a date with Luke Omega.
Gary was going to kill her. But Luke Omega would be worth the grief, with his dimples, blond curls, and the indent in his chin. Plus he was a celebrity. But most importantly, he said he would help her get her songs in front of Toke Lobo. After the concert was late, though, and if Gary ever found out, he would make her life miserable.
But she had a date with Luke Omega.
Abby thought about what the lateness might also mean—beyond being a better time to run into Toke Lobo. Luke had been kind to Libby, which meant he was either trying to impress her or he was genuinely a sweet guy. Since nice guys usually ignored her, he must be trying to score points with her by sucking up to her sister, who was difficult at best. Maybe he wanted sex.
Abby wasn’t much of a dreamer any more. When she’d been a little girl and her father was still alive, when she and Libby and Mama were the suns to Daddy’s moon, life had been full of possibilities. But a freak accident left Mama a widow with two girls to support. The last fantasy Abby allowed herself was that Gary and Mama got married because they loved each other. A whole week went by before reality betrayed her.
Nowadays, the closest she came to dreaming was wishing Mama would get better and divorce Gary. But Mama was dying and the family needed Gary’s paycheck and health insurance. Needed to keep paying the taxes on the little house on Silver Moon Terrace in order to keep a roof over their heads.
Abby couldn’t bring herself to tell Mama being homeless might be better. Safer.

This sounds like an incredible book. Now I know sometimes music inspires creativity and ideas. Do you happen to have a soundtrack to this book? Music that gets your creative juices flowing?
Definitely! I can’t write a book without a soundtrack.

Here’s the one for Omega Moon Rising:
1) “Monster” (Steppenwolf)
2) “Nature Boy” (Great Society)
3) “Bad Things” (Jace Everett)
4) “What Was I Thinking?” (Dierks Bentley)
5) “I Wish I Was the Moon” (Neko Case)
6) “It Ain’t Me Babe” (Bob Dylan)
7) “Whaddya Want From Me?” (Adam Lambert)
8) “Take Me to Church” (Hozier)
9) “I Guess He’d Rather Be in Colorado” (Mary Travers)
10) “Centerfold” (J. Geils Band)
11) “When Boy Meets Girl” (Terri Clark)
12) “Reflecting Light” (Sam Phillips)
13) “Leaving” (Indigo Girls)
14) “Someday Soon” (Judy Collins)
15) “Strongest Suit (Reprise)” (Aida Original Cast)
16) “Light As the Breeze” (Billy Joel)
17) “My Last Name” (Dierks Bentley)
18) “Yes, I Am” (Melissa Etheridge)
19) “Sometime in the Morning” (The Monkees)

Great songs and great artists! Musicians are such wonderful inspirations. Speaking of musicians, what was your VERY first concert? And who would you love to see now?
My very first concert was a summer event at Ralph Wilson Stadium—Jesse Colin Young, Santana, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

These days I would love to see . . . I wish I’d seen the Beatles and the Monkees when those groups were together. As far as current acts—my husband and I are trying to see as many of the musical icons of our youth as we can—I’m bummed I missed Janis Ian a couple of years ago when she played in a nearby town. Others I would love to see include Eric Clapton and Van Morrison.

Eric Clapton would definitely be a good one to see. That would make a nice date. Dinner and a concert. Oh hey, do you cook? If so, what is your specialty?

I love to cook. My specialty is experiments. I love to experiment with new recipes and new ingredients.

New recipes are a lot of fun. Especially pasta ones. And sometimes nothing goes better with pasta than a nice wine. Do you ever drink? If so, what’s your poison?

My favorite alcoholic beverage is red wine. Preferably a Cabernet Sauvignon, but I like Malbec, Tempranillos, and Zinfandels.
On a hot summer day, though, there is nothing like cold sparkling wine. My favorite is Dr. Frank’s Blanc de Noirs, but there are lots of affordable bubblies out there.

Sounds like you know your wines. I’m just beginning to learn LOL. One more question. If you could be anything but an author and your current job, what would it be?

If I weren’t an author and could name my dream job, I would be a caterer for small events—such as dinner parties in someone’s home. Or cooking Friday meals for my Catholic friends during Lent. Or vegetarian kosher meals for Passover. I have a running joke with my critique group about starting my own business: Kosher for Lent.

Well it definitely sounds like you would be a great caterer. Especially with your love of cooking and trying new things.

I want to thank you for being here today and sharing details about your new book and about you. Before you go, can you tell us where we can find you and your books?

Absolutely!

Here to tantalize us…

Hi everybody! Today I have Crystal Firsdon and her book, Almost Wrecked, The Song Wreckers, Book 1.
image

image

Good morning Crystal. Now you told me that this is the first book in a series. How exciting. Can you give us a taste of what it’s about?

1 creep. 2 bodyguards. 3 men who change Molly’s life forever.

Guitar player Molly Davis is taunted with disturbing gifts by some creep she hopes like heck is a harmless, misguided fan. The owner of the bar where her band plays isn’t taking any chances, however, and hires Gabe Cooper and Caleb “Ram” Ramsey to stand guard over Molly and the rest of the band.

Cooper is all business and doesn’t mess with Molly’s emotions. She can handle that. Ram is a different story. He’s gorgeous, has a good heart, and is sometimes infuriating. He doesn’t take Molly’s crap, giving him the potential to be the first man to shove his way through her stubbornness and into her life. But a violent attack proves the creep isn’t going away. And that almost wrecks everything.

Wow. That sounds so intriguing. And Ram sounds amazing. I can’t wait to read it. Do you have a soundtrack for your book? Something that keeps your creative juices going?

With the exception of my Christmas novelette, my other 2 books are music oriented, so of course I have a soundtrack to them. Miranda Lambert, Gretchen Wilson, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Pink, Joey + Rory, The Jane Dear Girls, The Band Perry, Adele. Those are the main artists. There are a few boys in there as well, but my main inspirations were the ladies.

While I’m mostly into rock music, I love all of those as well thanks to my hubby. 😌 With all of those great names, I have to ask: What was your VERY first concert? And who would you love to see now?

My very first concert was . . . wait for it . . . Menudo! Remember those guys? As soon as they reached a certain age they were kicked out of the group and replaced with someone younger. They were performing at the same outdoor fair as my dad’s band. I remember getting their autographs.

Now I’d love to see Miranda Lambert. I love twangy girl country. Many of her songs were on the soundtrack I made for my books.

I’ve heard of Menudo but I’ve never listened to them. I was born in 1977 and my first concert was Color Me Badd. 😄 That is a far cry from Miranda Lambert. Speaking of differences, are they any different genres you have thought about writing?

Yes! I have a paranormal romance trilogy mapped out, and another paranormal romance in the very beginning stages.

That is so awesome. I love it When authors venture out of their safe zone. I have a kids’ book in it’s early stages as well. So for anyone that is aspiring to be a writer, what kind of advice can you Give them?

Sit down behind your f***ing keyboard and write. Don’t worry that it sucks. All first, and sometimes second and third, drafts are awful. You can fix it later. Just get the ideas out of your head.

Well said. 😄 I hate to go but my family is going to be wanting breakfast soon.  Speaking of which, do you cook? Is there something special you make?

I cook dinner for the family just about every night, but I don’t consider myself a real cook. My specialty is anything with 5 ingredients or less for the most part. I love the crock pot. Just a few weeks ago my younger son asked me why I’m going back to school to become a teacher again. After my answer he looked at me dead serious, and said, “Mom, you could be a cook in a restaurant.” I told him that only him, his brother, and their dad likes my cooking. He said, “No, Mom. I’m serious. You should be a cook.” I’m still laughing at that one.

LOL. Well my family will never accuse me of being a great cook. Its a wonder they haven’t had food poisoning yet. Just kidding but I’m not a chef. But before you go, can you Give us a short rundown on your life?

Sure. Let me see… Well I’m a former high school teacher turned stay-at-home mom turned part-time substitute teacher and school volunteer. I’m currently a graduate student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn to earn my Master of Arts in Education. Hopefully soon I’ll be back in the classroom teaching.

Wow, that is great. Teachers are super important. A lot of times I don’t think they get the recognition they deserve. What else can you tell us about yourself?

I love the romance genre, and can’t decide whether it’s better to read it or write it. With a long background in physical fitness, I include exercise in all of my heroines’ lives. Lately, regular exercise is quite difficult, but hey, I’m trying.
I live in Michigan with my husband and children where the weather makes it impossible for my naturally curly hair to behave most days. You’ll almost always catch me sporting a messy bun and several bobby pins.

HA HA. I have to day I have really enjoyed having you on my blog today. One last question. Where can readers find you?

BLURB:

Raven Koynes is a woman in hiding. Years ago she escaped to remote Gull Island Light Station, nestled far away in Lake Superior. She has carved out a life of peace and solitude for herself. Until famed nature photographer Sebastian Knight arrives—in the height of a nor’easter storm—to document the beauty of Gull Island. Unsavory treasure hunters also blow in with the storm, determined to find missing cargo from a sunken ship. And they think Raven knows where it’s stashed. A power outage is a final threat, pushing Raven to the limit.

Help arrives in the form of a stray German Shepherd Dog, who takes an immediate protective interest in Raven. He becomes her constant shadow and listening ear as she sorts out her growing—and conflicting—feelings for Sebastian.

Meanwhile, Sebastian came to the island looking for treasure as well, in the form of photographs, While he isn’t so sure about a sunken boat and missing cargo, he only needs one look at Raven Koynes to know he’s found his own valuable treasure. One he hopes he can hang on to once she learns about his mysterious secret.

Now that Madeline the resident ghost has found out, it’s probably just a matter of time until Raven does too. And with the storm and power outage, no one is going anywhere any time soon.

A Great Twisted Movie

Starring Charlize Theron:

Chloe Grace Morentz:

And Nicholas Hoult:

image

This movie has it all: sex, drugs, murder, secrets, lies, and mystery. It will keep you guessing, gasping, and on the edge of your seat until the VERY end. No lie.

It is absolutely crazy and twisted, sad and unbelievable. This is one movie you DO NOT WANT TO MISS.

Usually, I would tell you more about this movie but #1: it’s late and #2: to tell you about it would completely ruin it for you so you are going to have to check it out for yourself. I will say one more thing about it though. The actresses and actors in this movie play the parts of a lifetime. Again,
DO NOT MISS THIS ONE. Enjoy!

Vigelantes Anyone? Part One. Movies…

Hi everybody. Now that my first book, Angel in the Shadows, has been released (Aug 19th on Amazon) everyone is asking me where I get my ideas for coming up with such characters. Well, one source for my inspirations is movies.

I LOVE movies. All types of movies. Comedy, drama, sci-fi, romance, horror, action, etc. As long as it’s good, I will watch it. But we’re not talking about all movies today are we?

Today I am talking about those action packed movies that center around those top secret people that work just outside of the law, that take out the bad guys that fail to register on the government’s radar. Those specialized individuals that come and go as they please without ever getting caught or identified. That’s right, I’m talking about…Vigelantes

**Now before I continue, let me just stop here and say, I am not condoning vigelantism by many means. This is just about those movies that get my creative juices flowing. That being said, I will continue.**

There has always been something so intriguing to me about these movies. Maybe it’s the danger and subsequent adrendaline rush. Maybe it’s the fight for justice when there seems to be none. Maybe it’s the hero/heroine that is cold enough to shoot someone in the head like it’s nothing yet in the end reveals that they have a good heart-they may fall in love-and do in fact, have a soul. (yeah, I’m a hopeless romantic-even with these type of movies. I’m a sap, I know it. 😍) Whatever it is, these movies inspire me like no other. So I’ve decided to share with you, in order, my top 3 favorite vigelante-esque movies of all time. Enjoy!

#1. HITMAN (2007) Starring Timothy Olyphant and Ogla Kurylenko *MY FAVORITE*

A gun-for-hire known only as Agent 47 hired by a group known only as ‘The Organization’ is ensnared in a political conspiracy, which finds him pursued by both Interpol and the Russian military as he treks across Russia and Eastern Europe. **Timothy Olyphant is easily one of the hottest me I have ever seen. add Robert Pattinson and Johnny Depp to that, and you will have my top 3 hottest men list. Aside from my sexxy hubby Shaun of course). And in this movie, Timothy is a total badass that is highly skilled in the role of a killer but is at a loss when he begins to care for the woman that gets in his way…(Pssst, this is how I always picture my heros in The Perfect Order to be).**

#2. WANTED (2008) Starring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy

A frustrated office worker learns that he is the son of a professional assassin, and that he shares his father’s superhuman killing abilities. **Although the main focus of movie is on the male character and his personal journey to vigelantism, I pay more attention to Angelina’s part. Simply because:(Spoiler Alert) in book 3 of The Perfect Order series-Angel Rising-(if I can get that far), the vigelante is a woman. Come on, I can’t let the guys have all the fun now can I? đŸ˜œ**

#3. THE EQUALIZER Starring Denzel Washington and Chloe Grace Morentz

A man believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and has dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when he meets a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can’t stand idly by-he has to help her. **This guy has had a hard life. He’s lost everything that matters but soon he finds something that wakes him up and makes realize that some things are still worth fighting for. I love this just because I want my characters to always fight for what is right no matter what.**

AND THE RUNNER-UPS ARE:

  • MR. AND MRS. SMITH Starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

A bored married couple is surprised to learn that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other.

  • THE MECHANIC Starring Jason Statham and Donald Sutherland

Follows an elite hit man as he teaches his trade to an apprentice who has a connection to one of his previous victims.

  • THE BOURNE IDENTITY (and subsequent movies) Starring Matt Damon and Franka Potente

Matt Damon is Jason Bourne, an elite government agent determined to outwit and outmaneuver anyone who stands in the way of his finding out the secrets of his mysterious past.

So there you have it. The top movies that are the inspiration for my Perfect Order series. If you haven’t watched any of these, you definitely should. Thanks for stopping by. And check back later for more posts about what inspires me to write vigelante stories.

JUST TEASING…WITH JOANNE GUIDOCCIO

Hi everyone.  Today I’m bringing you a little taste of a great book. Just enough to tease you a little and you know we like a little teasing….

 A Season for Killing Blondes
Gilda Greco never has an alibi when dead blondes turn up in dumpsters near her favorite haunts. Frustrated by a certain detective’s chilly persona and the mean girl antics of the victims’ meddling relatives, Gilda launches her own investigation and discovers a gaggle of suspects, among them a yoga instructor in need of anger management training, a lecherous photographer, and fourteen ex-boyfriends. As the puzzle pieces fall into place, shocking revelations emerge, forcing Gilda to confront the envy and deceit she has long overlooked.

A Season for Killing Blondes is the first in a series of career counseling mysteries that will feature fifty-something Italian women, interfering relatives, recipes, and murder.

 A Unique Feature About Joanne:

When I first retired from teaching, I was determined to create an oasis of calm. Three decades of teaching adolescents had cured me of any “yang” tendencies. Or so I thought. After several months of luncheon dates, book club meetings, afternoon and early evening yoga sessions, online writing workshops, and large blocks of reading time, I found myself suffering from “yin” overload.
On a whim, I visited a local Toastmasters club. I joined, with the understanding, that my attendance would be sporadic and I would not be completing any of the designations or hopping on the leadership track. All that changed after my first Icebreaker speech. I felt the proverbial butterflies, but I also enjoyed the adrenaline rush. So much so, that I went on to complete the Competent Communicator, Competent Leadership, and Bronze designations. I’m one speech away from the Silver designation and plan to acquire the Gold designation by August 2016. I have also won and placed in five speech contests and held three executive positions.
