Hi everybody. So the last few days I have watched several movies but only 2 truly stand out as great. I am going to share my take on both if them in the next few days. First up, A Dog’s Purpose.

Now unless you live under a rock, you had to have heard of this movie. Whether it be the emotional turmoil of the plot or perhaps the controversial aspects such as animal cruelty. Either way this movie made headlines. And after watching it, it made it’s way into my heart.

Starring roles include:

DENNIS QUAID

BRIT ROBERTSON

JOSH GAD

Here’s a quick look inside the plot if the movie.

A devoted dog (Josh Gad) discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. Reincarnated as multiple canines over the course of five decades, the lovable pooch develops an unbreakable bond with a kindred spirit named Ethan. As the boy grows older and comes to a crossroad, the dog once again comes back into his life to remind him of his true self.

This movie had it all. Happiness, joy, love, laughter, sorrow, anger, heartbreak. At times, I adored the characters and other times I grew so frustrated with them I nearly began giving them a good chewing out. (Like they could hear me right?) I smoked, laughed, and yes, even cried. A true roller coaster of emotions.

Although it didn’t rank very high in the review category, don’t let it sway you from taking a chance on it. I loved this and who knows, you might too. So check out A Dog’s Purpose today. Enjoy!

Introducing Dawn Ireland!!

Hi guys. Today I want to introduce you to a wonderfully talented author. Her name is Dawn Ireland and her new book is called Highland Yearning.

Hi Dawn! It is so nice to meet you. And I am so glad you are here today.

Thanks Amy. I am glad to be here too.

I love the cover for your new book. Can you tell me a little more about the story between the pages?

Sure. Here’s the blurb.

Highland Yearning Blurb:

Caden Mackay would never bed a Sutherland, let alone marry one. Bloody hell, what had possessed his twin brother to propose to one of the she-devils? And what is Caden to do with the Sutherland beauty who appears, as if by magic, in his library? The defiant intruder is the enemy, but she is unlike any woman Caden’s ever known, and her tantalizing curves and wide green eyes could tempt a monk. He must devise a way to stop the wedding. But can he stop the desire that makes him long to make Ariel Sutherland his own?

Ariel’s life had never gone the way she’d hoped, but ending up in eighteenth century Scotland was a stretch, even for her. If not for her dog, Scruffy, she might have thought she’d walked into a romantic daydream. Especially since the object of her desire appears to be entirely too virile. But can she find her way back to her time, before her too-handsome Highlander makes her believe that love can conquer in any century?

Oh my. This sounds incredible. But it’s just enough to whet a reader’s appetite. Can you tell us a little more?

I can do better than that. How about an excerpt?

Highland Yearning Excerpt:

Caden turned to his cousin. “We’ll search the windows above. By now the coward has fled, but we may yet find something to unmask our would-be assassin. Then we’ll attend to your urgent matter.”

He drew Ariel aside far enough that Ian couldn’t hear them. His expression screamed, I’d rather fight a dozen well-armed warriors than be in debt to a Sutherland. “Thank you for . . .” He simply stared at her.

“Saving your life?” She waited. Nothing. “Kissing you?” She raised her eyebrows. “Just trying to fill in the blank here.”

He blanched, but then heat filled his eyes. “Aye.”

“Well, one of us had to take the bull by the horns.” Okay, best not to dwell on that image. “I mean, I was curious. I wanted to kiss you. No big deal. It was just a kiss.”

“Aye.”

“Will you stop agreeing with me.”

His smile was genuine and she felt it to the tips of her toes. Good heavens, the man had charisma.

“I’ve nae had a woman who wanted me to disagree with her.”

“Well, I’m not like most women.” That was true enough. She’d never done the ‘let’s talk about boys, clothes and makeup thing’ with a group of girls. Somehow, she’d never fit in.

He smiled down at her. “Aye.”

“There you go, agreeing again.”

“Perhaps it’s because you make yourself so agreeable.”

She couldn’t contain the laughter that burst from her lips. “Really?” The word came out between gasps. “Oh, I wish you could have been there to tell my teachers. Not that they’d believe you. They thought I questioned everything.”

“Then they didn’t ken you.” His brows drew together. “I believe the stone was meant for me, but just in case, I want you to take care.

Her laughter died. “Why would anyone want to kill me?”

“Have you offended anyone aside from Ranald, the Countess or Robertson since I met you?”

“I don’t-So, I speak my mind. Is there a law against that in this century?”

“No. And I prefer plain speaking, but I’m nae most men.”

“No, you’re not.”

WOW. That sounds hot. I would really like to read this book and find out what happens next. Dawn, if you don’t mind, I would like to ask you a few questions that let the readers get to know you a little better.

That sounds great. And fun.

Okay awesome. Here is the first question. If you could have one mythical creature exist, what would it be? Why?

I’m going to expand your question to include mythological beings. I’m a bit like Samwise Gamgee from the Lord of the Rings, I’m fascinated by elves, at least the elves that Tolkien created. How can you not admire beings who are surrounded by mystery, embody beauty and elegance, and are connected to nature? Their magic, while not always straight forward, looks at what an individual needs. An example of this are the gifts given to Sam and his friends on their quest to destroy the ring. I think if the elves did exist we couldn’t ignore magic. And yes, I believe there is magic in everyday things. It’s all in how you look at the world.

I LOVE watching Lord of the Rings. So does my eldest daughter. The elves, especially Legolas is her favorite. I totally agree with you on the magic notion. Life is full of magical moments. We just have to allow ourselves to see them.

Question #2: If you could live in another time, when would it be? Why?

I set my books in the late 1700s because I’m fascinated with that era. So much was happening in the world: the industrial revolution, England’s King George was going mad, the American and French Revolutions. These things make exciting backdrops for books.

Now I realize some things about the past weren’t pleasant. Believe me, I’m very happy with all our modern conveniences and advanced medicine, but I feel we’ve lost something along the way. We no longer value elegance, or conversation, or have rules to live by. Anything goes. That’s why I don’t tend to write contemporary romance.

I have often wondered how it would be to live back in the older eras. I have only read a few historical books but they do make things sound incredibly different. I suppose they are. Which in a way, is really quite sad.

I know you write historical books but have you ever considered venturing into genres? Which one?

I prefer a fast pace to stories I write, or read. All my books have elements of mystery/suspense to them, so I can see myself gravitating toward that genre. However, I think I’d be hard pressed not to include some romantic elements.

Yep. You have to have the romantic elements. I can’t really imagine a book without a little of romance in them. After all, love is extremely important . Speaking of love…What is one thing you would LOVE to do?

Spend my days writing in a cottage somewhere on a coast in the British Isles. Not that I’d ever give up my American citizenship, or spend all my time at the cottage, but it would be lovely to be surrounded by the people and history I use in my stories.

That sounds wonderful. And peaceful. I imagine you could get some great ideas from a scene like that. It would also be an amazing place to read.

What is the first book you remember reading?

Georgette Heyer’s Devil’s Cub when I was eleven or twelve. It made such a big impact on me that I can still tell you what happened in the story. (She shoots the hero. Who wouldn’t love a story like that?) I think my feet were firmly planted toward romance with that book. Although, at about the same age I discovered The Lord of the Rings and I’ve read the series at least four times, so fantasy/paranormal is a natural for me. I suspect that’s why all my Highlander stories have a touch of magic.

I’m sorry to say that I have not read that book but it sounds very interesting. I may have to check it out soon.

Thank you so much for being with us today. Your book sounds amazing and I’m sure it will do wonderful with readers. Before you go, do you have a link where we can find your book?

Must Read Monday presents…Tracey!!

Hello all. Are you looking for a great book to read? Well I have one for you. Midnight Angel, Council Book 1. But first I want to introduce the talented author, Tracey Wood.

Hi Tracey. I am so glad you were able to join us today.

Hi Amy. Thanks for having me.

Now Tracey, what can you tell us about your book? (I love the title by the way.)

I can do better than that. How about I give you the blurb?

That would be great!

BLURB:

After almost losing her life in a vicious, bloody attack. Kat Shaw, a thirty-something, divorcee, discovers that there are such things as monsters. And the predator who attacked her is not human. She starts to develop unusual skills which have murderous consequences. And is an unwilling witness to multiple, brutal murders, seen through the eyes a killer. Thrown into a battle of Good vs. Evil, she falls in love with two men who are not what they seem. While her attacker stalks her and continues to murder the innocent. She has to find the inner strength to take on and fight the demons from hell. To protect her family and friends while also trying to save her own life.

Wow, this sounds absolutely amazing. I  know I’m interested. Can you give us a little more? Like maybe an excerpt?

Sure, no problem. Here you go.

EXCERPT:

The park was empty at this time of night. All the children had gone home hours ago. The nights were getting colder and the evening air bit through my clothes, making me shiver. A light dew clung to my hair and skin as the darkness closed in around me, shrouding me from the main road.

After a long day at work, I made my way along the manmade path. It was a good shortcut taking fifteen minutes off my journey. I would soon be home, safe and warm.

What to have for dinner? Hmm. Pizza! Yeah, I’ll dial a pizza. Treat myself. Why not?

Happy with my decision, I carried on my way.

Pulling my jacket collar up around my neck, I tried to beat the cold and the shiver running up my spine.

A sharp pain shot through my head, stunning me, and suddenly I was flying across the path. My forehead hit the ground with an audible thump. Another powerful flash of pain. Black blotches blurred my vision as I tried to focus on my surroundings.

I attempted to get up but something struck my back, flattening me to the ground. The wind rushed from my lungs. I couldn’t move! A heavy weight sat on my back, holding me down. I struggled to draw enough air into my lungs. Something sharp penetrated my back, then my arms and the top of my leg. It was pure agony!

What’s happening? Have I been stabbed?

Tucking my flailing hands under my body, I attempted to get up, a silent scream trapped inside me, but the weight held me in place.

Snaking my body, I wriggled across the compact soil of the path, attempting to pull myself forward. It was no use. I couldn’t even get to my hands and knees.

My clothes were ripped from my back as the onslaught continued.

The pain slowly dulled, even though I was still at the mercy of my attacker. My heart pounded with fear as this predator snatched at my body. I was shaken violently from side to side. My gut told me my attacker was male. He was dominant, strong, and overpowering.

Oh God, this can’t be happening. No, please. I don’t want to die!

Glancing around frantically for a weapon, I realized I still had my keys in my hand. Without thinking, I slashed them behind my back with as much force as I could. They bit into something soft. Warm fluid flowed over me.

I had hurt him and possibly made him angrier. This unseen person was going to do the unthinkable. He was going to violate me, rob me of my life, or both. I desperately needed to get away from this monster. But how? I couldn’t fight back. Damn it, I couldn’t even move.

Nausea washed over me as my body weakened, my life draining away. A dark mist clouded my mind, consuming me, consuming my thoughts. I was going to die here in a lonely, dark park in the middle of London. I would never see my family and friends again.

Why? Why? I want to live. Help me, please help me, someone!

As if this monster had heard my silent plea, the shaking suddenly stopped. The weight lifted slightly and I could breathe. Relief washed over me.

Had the attack finished? Did he think I was dead?

I lay still, faking death, struggling not to take deep, gulping breaths. I fought the panic pumping through my body.

I became aware of a stroking sensation on my back, a light caress. Small strokes, followed by a sound I could not identify. The strokes became harder and the noise louder. A wet, squelching sound.

What is that?

My head spun with confusion and panic as I strained to locate my attacker. I saw a movement from the corner of my eye. I turned but couldn’t focus. It was too dark and I was in shock.

Warm liquid ran down my back, arms, and legs. Blood. My blood, but there was no pain, still no pain.

In a moment of clarity, I knew I had to move. To get away before my attacker struck again.

I don’t know about anyone else but I seriously got chills just from reading that. A good sign that a book is going to be an incredible read. Now that we know a little about your book, do you mind if I ask a few questions to find out more about you?

No problem. Fire away.

Okay great. First question. If you could pick another name for yourself, ANY name, what would it be?

I like names that go for a boy or girl like Charley, Danni, Mercedes. I think it would be something like Harley.

I love different names too. I always thought if I had another girl, I would name her Jemma. Okay, next question. If you had to pick one, what would be your pet peeve? The thing that drives you crazy?

I think it is more of a hate really. Its cruelty to animals. I can’t stand it.

I agree. I don’t understand how anyone could harm an innocent animal. It’s terrible. On a happier note, what is one thing you would LOVE to do?

I would love to be psychic so that I could help to solve crimes or murders.

Other than an author, I think that would be an awesome job. Speaking of authors, who is your favorite?

There are so many but Richelle Mead.

I’m sorry to say that I don’t know who that is. But I will definitely have to check her out. Last question. What is your greatest fear?

Spiders and Clowns

I can understand the spiders. They are so nasty. Ewwww. Thank you so much for being here Tracey. I hope that you will come back and visit again. Before you go, can you give us a quick bio and contact/buy links?

Thanks for having me. Here you go.
