Here to tantalize us…Claire Gem!

Good Morning Everyone. Today I have the incredibly talented author Claire Gem and her newest release, A Taming Season.
Hi Claire. I am so glad you are here with us today. You have a new book out. That is so exciting. Can you tell us a little more about it?

I’d be happy to. In fact, I will give you the blurb.

A TAMING SEASON, A Love at Lake George Novel, Book 1

Manhattan domestic violence counselor Zoe Anderson is going on the most important vacation of her life.

Before she can move on, help other women, Zoe needs to heal herself. Her Cinderella life shattered three years ago one fateful night, leaving her a young widow, scarred inside and out. In an attempt to reclaim her life, bury her demons, and save her job, Zoe sets out for picturesque Lake George to claim the treasured family cottage she recently inherited. Her therapist’s advice: Reboot, restore to an earlier time.

What she finds is a rundown shack.

The neighboring resort mogul, Jason Rolland, whisks in to her rescue, insisting Zoe stay at his upscale Lakeview Lodge. The wealthy, handsome bachelor has a bank account as big as his ego, along with his own nighttime radio show where he plays the love guru of Jason’s Lair. He figures he might use the gifts God gave him to convince the sexy redheaded stranger to give up the crumbling eye-sore next door. A challenge he’s definitely up for. Besides, he’s been trying to buy the cabin—and demolish it—for years: the last reminder of his own tragic, childhood memories.

Zoe can’t deny her attraction to the tall, dark-haired Jason with his pool-water blue eyes. Definitely fling material—if she can just get past those flashbacks from the night everything changed. And the knowledge that when it comes to happy-ever-after, you usually don’t get a second chance. Certainly not possible with the Tiger of Jason’s Lair.

What Jason doesn’t figure on is Zoe’s charms melting his emotional armor, exposing his own bruised, battered heart. But with his reputation, can he ever win her trust & love? Can a tiger really change his stripes? Or will their pasts come back to bite them both?

Wow, this sounds incredibly exciting and dangerous. Just up my alley. Now that we know a little more about your book, let’s find out more about you. For example, are you coffee drinker? If so, how do you take it?

Black – no cream, no sugar. I like my caffeine kick undiluted.

You are much tougher than me. I have to have LOTS of added sugar and creamer.

Okay, here’s a fun question. If you could have one mythical creature exist, what would it be? Why?

I would absolutely love to have a pet dragon. Of course, I’d have to raise one from the egg so I could train it properly to use its fire-breathing capabilities: to start the fire pit, and not incinerate my adversaries. Unless under direct order.

LOL. I love it! Good choice. Dragons are so mysterious and amazing. I don’t know how well they would do in the world today. Maybe back in the Dark Ages though…Speaking of which, if you could live in another time, when would it be? Why?

Early fifteenth century in eastern Europe, i.e., what is now Belgium. No real explanation for this except that I’ve been obsessed with this area, and this time in history, since I was a child. I miss it like I’ve lived then, and there, before…maybe in a previous life.

That sounds like a good reason to me.

So what is one thing most people would be surprised to learn about you?

Although a child of the fifties, having grown up in the era of disco, my tastes in music run the gamut from classical to progressive metal. The last four concerts I’ve attended, within as many years, were heavy metal bands. And no, I was not the oldest in the crowd—my brother, ten years my senior, bought the tickets for us.

It sounds like you like variety. I’m the same way. The more diverse something is, the better the range is for creativity.

One last question:

Pick your poison. What is your favorite alcoholic drink?

Vodka martini, Absolut Citron, NO OLIVES. Just a few lime squeezes and rocks on the side, please (can you tell I’ve ordered this a few times?)

Sounds like you have it down all right. Sounds pretty tasty. I might just have to try it sometime…

I want to thank you for stopping by and sharing not only your book details, but also some info about you. It’s always nice to get to know an author better. I think it makes reading their books that much more enjoyable. If fans would like to get in touch with you, where can they find you?

Must Read Monday Presents…Ryan Jo!

Hello everyone! Well it’s Monday again. Back to work again. Yay! Yeah right, who am I kidding. But I do have something that might make your work week a little better. Ryan Jo Summers and her book Upon the Tide.
Hi Ryan! I am so glad you could be here today. I just love the cover of your book. How would you sum up your book in one sentence?
Sure, here’s the hook:
Tossed together by happenstance, fleeing for their lives and falling in love under the Caribbean sun as paradise turns deadly.

That sure grabbed my attention. Got any more for us?

New York Fashion designer, Piper Kincaid, just wanted a pleasant visit with her cousin down in Florida. That was before she and handsome beach bum, Kade Wyatt, become the targets of a gang of robbers and killers.
Kade simply wanted some fish for his pet seagull. Now he and the lovely exec from out of town are caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse. He’s busy concentrating on Piper when he should be focusing on keeping them alive.
Fleeing for their lives aboard Kade’s houseboat, ‘The Hightide’, they experience risk, surprises, mystery and romance during the Great Caribbean Boat Chase. However, the biggest surprises are waiting for them back at port.
Wow! I can’t wait to read this.
Well, here’s a taste of what you’ll be reading…
“Thanks. So, tell me, have you ever taken this thing out into the ocean before?”
“Sure, lots of times. Usually I just take the Ebbtide, but Hightide’s been out into the Straits and further before. These trawlers are made to go clear to Europe if we wanted to.”
“Is that where we’re headed to?”
“No, just to the Bahamas and the Bermuda Triangle.”
She frowned. “Wait. Isn’t that where all those planes and boats have disappeared before?”
“There have been a few rumors of that happening,” he agreed slowly.
“Well, aren’t you concerned it could happen to us? That we could disappear?”
He cracked a grin. “If we do, the guys chasing us won’t be able to find us then.”
I found myself grinning just by reading this excerpt. I’m sure the rest of the book is just as good.
I’ve got some questions for you that will help your readers get to know you a little better. Ready?
Sure, let’s go.
Do you have any tattoos? What are they? If not, what would you want?
No, I don’t have any tattoos. However, if I were ever to get one, it would be a phoenix. The mythological bird that burned itself on a funeral pyre every so many years (500 I think) to rise from the ashes renewed and beautiful again. Why? When I left Michigan in 2004, to begin a new life in the south, I envisioned myself burning my old life to rise again someday. No there was no real fire, it was all symbolic. That is why I use phoenix in my email. At the time, it seemed fitting.

I’m sure that would look awesome! Okay, question number two. If you could live in another time, when would it be? Why?

The late 1880’s. I have read and watched westerns since I was a kid and fell in love with that period of history. Yes, it was hard and had some serious drawbacks, especially for women. (But to be honest, today isn’t perfect either) They were poised a few years from the dawning of a new decade, with new advancements and inventions constantly coming along. The country was still fairly new, honest and innocent. A person could make their mark based on their own efforts, good or bad, fair or honest. I really want to write more stories based in this time era. Why? It’s so much fun to mentally go back there!

What about a place? If you could move to a different state, what state would it be? Why?

Oregon, or the Pacific Northwest because of the climate. And it’s beautiful along the coast. I miss being near the water when I lived up north and suffer through the endless sun and heat of southern summers. I treasure cool, cloudy rainy days like gold. They are rare here in the south and common place in Oregon.

Are you a coffee drinker? How do you take it?

I love, love my coffee. I take it in a thick mug. With much raw, natural sugar and lots of whole milk. Sweet!! I do the same thing with my tea. Hot and I add a teaspoon of honey. Yum!

That sounds so good right now. I love coffee. It really gets me going in the morning. Okay, last question. What is one thing most people would be surprised to learn about you?

I have no sense of smell. Never have. It’s called anosmia. Totally true. My sense of taste is kind of wonky too but it’s all I’ve known. Can’t do heat and can’t get enough sweet.

Wow, I’ve never heard of that.  I can’t imagine not being able to smell. But then again, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad at times. Like when someone forgets to take the trash out. LOL!

Now that you’ve answered some in depth questions, can you tell us anything else about yourself?

Well, I am a North Carolina author who specializes in writing romances with a twist. Love stories blended with inspirational, paranormal, suspense or time travel–or several at once. I also writes non-fiction for regional periodicals. My dad is a songwriter and his aunt wrote poetry so I’m positive I came by my writing skill honestly. Apparently it’s in the genes.
My hobbies include bird-watching, houseplants (50 ish and growing), poetry and yard work. I love to gather with friends, hike in the forest with her dog, paint ceramics and canvas and work on wiggly word find puzzles. I live in a 1920 cottage with a menagerie of pets. Living in the mountains, I dream of the shore and frequently uses the water as scenes for my stories.
Ryan, thank you again for letting me host you today. Please come back anytime.

An Incredible New Read!!

Hello everbody! I am so happy to introduce the talented author Christine Hart and her book, In Irina’s Cards.

image

image

*BLURB*

Irina Proffer leaves mundane small-town life behind when she experiences visions inspired by a strange deck of tarot cards. To get answers, she travels from her northern British Columbia home to the province’s coastal capital. She quickly discovers a world of fringe genetic science and supernatural mystery.

Working for Innoviro Industries, Irina is drawn in by a powerful first love and compelling, yet dangerous questions about the nature of the company’s business. Meeting other ‘variants’ brings Irina closer and closer to the dark truth about her origins. She finds herself at the heart of two overlapping love triangles as she scrambles to escape her employer’s grip. Before she leaves the city, Irina realizes she has merely scratched the surface of a frightening conspiracy on a global scale.

Wow, this sounds really interesting. We all know being an author is a dream most of us share. So what advice would you give an aspiring writer?

Do it anyway. A writer I admire, Eden Robinson, said the same thing to me when I interviewed her as an undergrad writer at UVic. She was up for the Giller Prize at the time and told me she’d been daunted by the publishing industry as well. Canadians will recognize these items more easily than everyone else, but the point remains strong. Rejections? Bad reviews? Discouragement? Suck it up and keep going anyway. It’s the difference between being published and not being published.

That sounds like excellent advice. You have to keep going. But what do you do to break the dreaded writers block?

I have an interesting relationship with writer’s block. I frequently kick him (pronoun chosen on purpose) out of my room, house, head, or wherever else I find him. If I’m going to get a chapter done on a particular day, that’s what happens. I’ve written with an infant strapped to my chest. I’ve written bleary-eyed until midnight. When it comes to deadlines, even those I set for myself, I’m my own hardest taskmaster.

Being an author is a hard, difficult, but rewarding career. Speaking of jobs though, w

hat job would you NEVER want to do?

When I was younger, I used to say I’d never work in customer service and I’d never look after children. Now that I’ve done both of those things – and surprised myself by enjoying both – I’m not sure I’d shut anything out. I’m allergic to quite a few animals, most seriously horses, so I’d be in deep trouble if I ever had to work on a farm. I’ve learned the hard way that an asthma inhaler won’t save me if I decide to get too close anyway.

I’ve done both of those jobs myself. I have to say they definitely weren’t the worst ones. 😀 Here’s a fun question.

Have any tattoos? What are they? If not, what would you want?

I have a tattoo on my lower back that resembles the centerpiece of an elaborate Victorian necklace. Anyone familiar with my alter-ego, Sleepless Storyteller, wouldn’t be surprised to see this tat.

Sleepless Storyteller? Wow, I love that name. It has a wonderful ring to it. Now here’s a super tough question…What is your favorite candy? The one you couldn’t live without? 😋

This one is embarrassing, but I’ll be a big girl and admit I’m hooked on gummi bears. I can generally conceal it by buying them for my 4-year-old son, but I’m probably not fooling anyone who knows me.

Don’t be embarrassed. I love those too. Something about the fruity taste and that squishy texture. They are awesome. ☺
Christine, it has been great having you here and I hope you come back. But before you go, can you tell us where we can find your books?

No problem. Here are my buy links.
