Must Read Monday Presents…Ryan Jo!

Hello everyone! Well it’s Monday again. Back to work again. Yay! Yeah right, who am I kidding. But I do have something that might make your work week a little better. Ryan Jo Summers and her book Upon the Tide.
Hi Ryan! I am so glad you could be here today. I just love the cover of your book. How would you sum up your book in one sentence?
Sure, here’s the hook:
Tossed together by happenstance, fleeing for their lives and falling in love under the Caribbean sun as paradise turns deadly.

That sure grabbed my attention. Got any more for us?

New York Fashion designer, Piper Kincaid, just wanted a pleasant visit with her cousin down in Florida. That was before she and handsome beach bum, Kade Wyatt, become the targets of a gang of robbers and killers.
Kade simply wanted some fish for his pet seagull. Now he and the lovely exec from out of town are caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse. He’s busy concentrating on Piper when he should be focusing on keeping them alive.
Fleeing for their lives aboard Kade’s houseboat, ‘The Hightide’, they experience risk, surprises, mystery and romance during the Great Caribbean Boat Chase. However, the biggest surprises are waiting for them back at port.
Wow! I can’t wait to read this.
Well, here’s a taste of what you’ll be reading…
“Thanks. So, tell me, have you ever taken this thing out into the ocean before?”
“Sure, lots of times. Usually I just take the Ebbtide, but Hightide’s been out into the Straits and further before. These trawlers are made to go clear to Europe if we wanted to.”
“Is that where we’re headed to?”
“No, just to the Bahamas and the Bermuda Triangle.”
She frowned. “Wait. Isn’t that where all those planes and boats have disappeared before?”
“There have been a few rumors of that happening,” he agreed slowly.
“Well, aren’t you concerned it could happen to us? That we could disappear?”
He cracked a grin. “If we do, the guys chasing us won’t be able to find us then.”
I found myself grinning just by reading this excerpt. I’m sure the rest of the book is just as good.
I’ve got some questions for you that will help your readers get to know you a little better. Ready?
Sure, let’s go.
Do you have any tattoos? What are they? If not, what would you want?
No, I don’t have any tattoos. However, if I were ever to get one, it would be a phoenix. The mythological bird that burned itself on a funeral pyre every so many years (500 I think) to rise from the ashes renewed and beautiful again. Why? When I left Michigan in 2004, to begin a new life in the south, I envisioned myself burning my old life to rise again someday. No there was no real fire, it was all symbolic. That is why I use phoenix in my email. At the time, it seemed fitting.

I’m sure that would look awesome! Okay, question number two. If you could live in another time, when would it be? Why?

The late 1880’s. I have read and watched westerns since I was a kid and fell in love with that period of history. Yes, it was hard and had some serious drawbacks, especially for women. (But to be honest, today isn’t perfect either) They were poised a few years from the dawning of a new decade, with new advancements and inventions constantly coming along. The country was still fairly new, honest and innocent. A person could make their mark based on their own efforts, good or bad, fair or honest. I really want to write more stories based in this time era. Why? It’s so much fun to mentally go back there!

What about a place? If you could move to a different state, what state would it be? Why?

Oregon, or the Pacific Northwest because of the climate. And it’s beautiful along the coast. I miss being near the water when I lived up north and suffer through the endless sun and heat of southern summers. I treasure cool, cloudy rainy days like gold. They are rare here in the south and common place in Oregon.

Are you a coffee drinker? How do you take it?

I love, love my coffee. I take it in a thick mug. With much raw, natural sugar and lots of whole milk. Sweet!! I do the same thing with my tea. Hot and I add a teaspoon of honey. Yum!

That sounds so good right now. I love coffee. It really gets me going in the morning. Okay, last question. What is one thing most people would be surprised to learn about you?

I have no sense of smell. Never have. It’s called anosmia. Totally true. My sense of taste is kind of wonky too but it’s all I’ve known. Can’t do heat and can’t get enough sweet.

Wow, I’ve never heard of that.  I can’t imagine not being able to smell. But then again, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad at times. Like when someone forgets to take the trash out. LOL!

Now that you’ve answered some in depth questions, can you tell us anything else about yourself?

Well, I am a North Carolina author who specializes in writing romances with a twist. Love stories blended with inspirational, paranormal, suspense or time travel–or several at once. I also writes non-fiction for regional periodicals. My dad is a songwriter and his aunt wrote poetry so I’m positive I came by my writing skill honestly. Apparently it’s in the genes.
My hobbies include bird-watching, houseplants (50 ish and growing), poetry and yard work. I love to gather with friends, hike in the forest with her dog, paint ceramics and canvas and work on wiggly word find puzzles. I live in a 1920 cottage with a menagerie of pets. Living in the mountains, I dream of the shore and frequently uses the water as scenes for my stories.
Ryan, thank you again for letting me host you today. Please come back anytime.

I’M FAMOUS…well sort of…

Hi everyone. Like it says above, I’m famous! Well, not really. But I feel kind of important today. Why? I am in the newspaper.

                        TA-DA!!

No, it’s not the New York Times but still, this paper circulates around all of NW Arkansas which for me, is big.

I hope it might be the beginning for more exposure for my first full length novel, Angel in the Shadows , and also for my short story, Second Chances, A Christmas Story, which is one of 8 Chritmas themed stories in the Soul Mate publication, Sizzle in the Snow.

I am currently working on the second book in the Angel series, tentatively titled, Stone Cold Angel.

Also, when Angel in the Shadows becomes available in print version, (around May or June of this year), I plan to begin do book signings. I am in the process of contacting a few places around NW Arkansas that would allow me to set up a book signing table.

But in the meantime, if you’re interested in a good book, please check out Angel in the Shadows or Sizzle in the Snow. Both are currently available on Amazon. And if you do purchase one of these incredible titles, please leave a review on Amazon and Goodreads. Reviews help us authors more than you can possibly know.

Hello all. Today I have Angela Archer and her new book, As the Liquor Flows.

Angela, the cover of your book looks incredible. What can you tell us about it?

Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929, the day the stock market crashed, and the day Evelyn Ford will never forget.

With the untimely death of her parents and the loss of their only income, Evelyn, and her brother, Frank flee to a make-shift hovel built in Central Park.

After Frank mysteriously goes missing, bare cupboards force Evelyn to seek employment anywhere she can find work, even if that means working at a burlesque theater.

Catching the attention of Don Vincent Giovanni, a Kingpin in the New York mafia, Evelyn discovers that Frank is serving time in prison for running hooch and he owes Vincent a lot of money. In order to pay off her brother’s debt, Evelyn is thrown into the world of mobsters and bootlegging.

Between running hooch all over the city of New York and trying to save her brother, Evelyn finds herself drawn to Max Catalano, Vincent’s Consigliere. Even with secrets of his own, he’s the only one she can trust when she entangles herself herself in the middle of the New York mafia crime wars.

Wow! That sounds amazing! A definite must read!

Thanks! I really enjoyed writing it.

What can you tell us about you?

I live on a ranch with my husband, two daughters, and many farm animals.

A ranch! How cool. Have you always been around that kind of lifestyle?

Well, I was born and raised in Nevada, and grew up riding and showing horses from hunter jumper, English equitation, western pleasure, trail, and halter.
While I don’t show anymore, I still love to trail ride my paint horse, Honky. In December of 2007, I and her husband moved to Oklahoma.

How did you decide to become a writer?

From a young age, I always wanted to write a novel. However, I never believed I could write anything well enough for a publisher to even consider me. Every time the desire flickered, I shoved the thought from my mind until one morning, in 2009, I awoke with the determination to follow my dream.

It’s a good thing you did. Now you can do what you’ve always dreamed of.

And now for a little question and answer session:

Pizza or Cheeseburgers?
Pizza

What is your favorite candy? The one you couldn’t live without? Skittles. Especially the Wild Berry flavors in the purple bag.

Coffee drinker? How do you take it?
I’m ridiculously addicted to coffee and I’m a “hot blonde with sand” girl (lots of cream and sugar).

Pick your poison. What is your favorite alcoholic drink?
Anything with Tequila.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Grilled shrimp

Here to tantalize us…Roni!

Good morning everyone. Today on my blog I have author Roni Hall and her newest book, Montana Wild.

image

image

Hi there Roni. I am so excited to have you here today. I love the title of your book. Can you tell us about it?

Sure. Here’s the blurb.
Spiraling downward after losing two loved ones within one week, Jamie’s world was closing in…until she grabs an unexpected lifeline and escapes. Knowing only New York City, Montana is another world and she is unprepared by how the land, the people and even the animals touch her.
After risking her life to save a child, Jamie shares an undeniable bond and the beginning ripples of deep emotions with her co-rescuer, Kevin. However, her past follows her to Montana and threatens all that she loves there.
Jamie has no choice but to hurt Kevin in order to save his life and returns to New York with her ex, Derrick.
Broken, Kevin refuses to believe she doesn’t love him and searches for Jamie, only to find her in Derrick’s lair. Once again Jamie tries to protect Kevin but this time gets caught in the cross fire.

Wow. This sounds super exciting and like a definite page turner. One question I like to ask authors iswhat first inspired you to write?

As a nurse, I encountered numerous memorable patients but there were a few that forever settled into my heart. Montana Wild is fiction, but Jacob, the patient in the story was real. In the span of a human lifetime, I knew him a very short time, but his spirit had a lasting effect on me.

I’m so sorry to hear about Jacob but he sounds like an amazing person. Its wonderful that you continue to carry him with you and keep his memory alive through your writing.

Jacob died decades ago but he stays with me and inspired me to write.

That in itself is truely inspirational. I know that being an author carries with it a set of challenges but despite it all, what is the best thing about being an author?

I can’t tell you how many people have told me that writing a book is on their bucket list. I am proud to say I did it!

LOL. I know it is something I have always wanted to do since I was a child. To be a published author is a dream come true. That and wanting to be able to be able to tell the future. That one hasn’t come true yet though.  😄 What about you? If you could have one super power,  what would you choose?

Fly, I would definitely fly. It would be the ultimate freedom to soar above the earth and tour the world!

I’ve heard that flying is wonderful but I am so scared of heights. Absolutely terrified. What is one thing that scares you the most?

Bears. I am deathly afraid of being mauled by a bear…started with a childhood dream.

Really? It’s crazy how much one single moment in time can affect us for the rest of our lives. And sometimes it’s really hard to overcome those obstacles. Speaking of which, what is one thing that aggravates you no matter how much you fight against it? What’s your pet peeve?

I have to say it is passivity. Be passionate. There is nothing worse than being passive.

I totally agree. Passion is what makes us strive for everything we want in life. Roni, I want to thank you for stopping by my blog today. I really enjoyed talking to you. But before you go, can you tell us where we can find you and your book, Montana Wild?
