Introducing Dawn Ireland!!

Hi guys. Today I want to introduce you to a wonderfully talented author. Her name is Dawn Ireland and her new book is called Highland Yearning.

Hi Dawn! It is so nice to meet you. And I am so glad you are here today.

Thanks Amy. I am glad to be here too.

I love the cover for your new book. Can you tell me a little more about the story between the pages? 

Sure. Here’s the blurb.

Oh my. This sounds incredible. But it’s just enough to whet a reader’s appetite. Can you tell us a little more?

I can do better than that. How about an excerpt?

Highland Yearning Excerpt:

Caden turned to his cousin. “We’ll search the windows above. By now the coward has fled, but we may yet find something to unmask our would-be assassin. Then we’ll attend to your urgent matter.”

He drew Ariel aside far enough that Ian couldn’t hear them. His expression screamed, I’d rather fight a dozen well-armed warriors than be in debt to a Sutherland. “Thank you for . . .” He simply stared at her.

“Saving your life?” She waited. Nothing. “Kissing you?” She raised her eyebrows. “Just trying to fill in the blank here.”

He blanched, but then heat filled his eyes. “Aye.”

“Well, one of us had to take the bull by the horns.” Okay, best not to dwell on that image. “I mean, I was curious. I wanted to kiss you. No big deal. It was just a kiss.”

“Aye.”

“Will you stop agreeing with me.”

His smile was genuine and she felt it to the tips of her toes. Good heavens, the man had charisma.

“I’ve nae had a woman who wanted me to disagree with her.”

“Well, I’m not like most women.” That was true enough. She’d never done the ‘let’s talk about boys, clothes and makeup thing’ with a group of girls. Somehow, she’d never fit in.

He smiled down at her. “Aye.”

“There you go, agreeing again.”

“Perhaps it’s because you make yourself so agreeable.”

She couldn’t contain the laughter that burst from her lips. “Really?” The word came out between gasps. “Oh, I wish you could have been there to tell my teachers. Not that they’d believe you. They thought I questioned everything.”

“Then they didn’t ken you.” His brows drew together. “I believe the stone was meant for me, but just in case, I want you to take care.

Her laughter died. “Why would anyone want to kill me?”

“Have you offended anyone aside from Ranald, the Countess or Robertson since I met you?”

“I don’t-So, I speak my mind. Is there a law against that in this century?”

“No. And I prefer plain speaking, but I’m nae most men.”

“No, you’re not.”

WOW. That sounds hot. I would really like to read this book and find out what happens next. Dawn, if you don’t mind, I would like to ask you a few questions that let the readers get to know you a little better.

That sounds great. And fun.

Okay awesome. Here is the first question. If you could have one mythical creature exist, what would it be? Why?

I’m going to expand your question to include mythological beings. I’m a bit like Samwise Gamgee from the Lord of the Rings, I’m fascinated by elves, at least the elves that Tolkien created. How can you not admire beings who are surrounded by mystery, embody beauty and elegance, and are connected to nature? Their magic, while not always straight forward, looks at what an individual needs. An example of this are the gifts given to Sam and his friends on their quest to destroy the ring. I think if the elves did exist we couldn’t ignore magic. And yes, I believe there is magic in everyday things. It’s all in how you look at the world.

I LOVE watching Lord of the Rings. So does my eldest daughter. The elves, especially Legolas is her favorite. I totally agree with you on the magic notion. Life is full of magical moments. We just have to allow ourselves to see them. 

Question #2: If you could live in another time, when would it be? Why? 

I set my books in the late 1700s because I’m fascinated with that era. So much was happening in the world: the industrial revolution, England’s King George was going mad, the American and French Revolutions. These things make exciting backdrops for books.

Now I realize some things about the past weren’t pleasant. Believe me, I’m very happy with all our modern conveniences and advanced medicine, but I feel we’ve lost something along the way. We no longer value elegance, or conversation, or have rules to live by. Anything goes. That’s why I don’t tend to write contemporary romance.

I have often wondered how it would be to live back in the older eras. I have only read a few historical books but they do make things sound incredibly different. I suppose they are. Which in a way, is really quite sad. 

I know you write historical books but have you ever considered venturing into genres? Which one?

I prefer a fast pace to stories I write, or read. All my books have elements of mystery/suspense to them, so I can see myself gravitating toward that genre. However, I think I’d be hard pressed not to include some romantic elements.

Yep. You have to have the romantic elements. I can’t really imagine a book without a little of romance in them. After all, love is extremely important . Speaking of love…What is one thing you would LOVE to do?

Spend my days writing in a cottage somewhere on a coast in the British Isles. Not that I’d ever give up my American citizenship, or spend all my time at the cottage, but it would be lovely to be surrounded by the people and history I use in my stories.

 That sounds wonderful. And peaceful. I imagine you could get some great ideas from a scene like that. It would also be an amazing place to read. 

 

What is the first book you remember reading?

Georgette Heyer’s Devil’s Cub when I was eleven or twelve. It made such a big impact on me that I can still tell you what happened in the story. (She shoots the hero. Who wouldn’t love a story like that?) I think my feet were firmly planted toward romance with that book. Although, at about the same age I discovered The Lord of the Rings and I’ve read the series at least four times, so fantasy/paranormal is a natural for me. I suspect that’s why all my Highlander stories have a touch of magic.

I’m sorry to say that I have not read that book but it sounds very interesting. I may have to check it out soon.
