Perfectly Honest by Linda O’Connor

You never know where your words will take you…
When Mikaela Finn agreed to be Sam’s ‘fiancée’ for a weekend, she probably should have told him that she’s a doctor.

Sam O’Brien, aka ‘Dr. Eye Candy’, is trying to shed his playboy reputation and convince a small town hospital that he’s ready to settle down. But when his ‘fiancée’ helps deliver a baby in the middle of the meet and greet, it’s a bit of a shock. If he’d known the whole truth, he might have done things a little differently because somehow his ‘fiancée’ ends up stealing his job and his heart. Not exactly the change he wanted.

Lies and deceit – it’s a match made in heaven!

Do you have a certain person that you can always turn to to bounce ideas off of?
Well I can’t say I bounce ideas very often. Occasionally I’ll be writing and laugh out loud and my husband or son might ask about it. Once I was having trouble with the hero’s response in a conversation – it sounded more like my voice than a male’s, so I ran it by my eldest son to see how he would say it. I’ve written 2 stories about a hockey team, and another one of my sons played high-level hockey, so I picked his brain about phrases used by the players on the ice and in the dressing room. That’s the handy thing about having sons!
Where is your favorite place to write your book?
We have a house on the water and I love to sit and write where I can look at the lake. When the weather is warm, I’ll write outside. I also write when I’m travelling – on the train or plane. It makes the time go by quickly. I heard a tip at a writer’s conference about writing on a computer in public. They suggested changing the colour of the font to gray so it couldn’t be read over your shoulder. Not that my work is top secret, but I do that now!

What has been the biggest inspiration for you?                                                                                          The need to teach has been the biggest inspiration for my writing. I’m a physician and a large part of my job is to teach people about their health in a way that they can understand. Initially my idea was to weave medical teaching into a romantic comedy. Now that Perfectly Honest has been published, I’ve also used humorous posts on my website.

Have you considered writing in any other genres? If so, which ones?
I’ve co-authored a Physical Examination Manual – a guide for medical students learning clinical skills. For fiction, though, I’ll stick to contemporary romance novels. One of my stories has a bit of a mystery to it, but I like the happily-ever-after endings of romance novels.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be? Why?
I would pick teletransportation as my superpower. No more searching for a parking spot, getting stuck at airports, hours on the train, worries about driving in winter weather. I want to be able to blink, visit my mom for lunch and blink, come home for dinner with my family. (If I could have 2 superpowers, someone else would make the dinner.)

I’ve been writing romance novels for three years and sincerely thank Debby Gilbert at Soul Mate Publishing for the ultimate encouragement to my writing – with the leap to publishing. I have many titles including Doctor, Mom, and proud Canadian, but “Linda O’Connor – hereinafter called the Author” on the SMP contract was one of the sweetest.
Contemporary romantic comedies are my favorite novels to read and write. I balance writing with my work as a physician at an Urgent Care Clinic and being a mom to three sons (luckily grown and capable of throwing together a decent meal, in a pinch). I also like to keep active and cycle, cross-country ski, skate, walk with my husband, or dance every day.
Laugh every day. Love every minute.
